Did you know that most sleeping bags have a temperature rating?

For example a -5C sleeping bag will keep you warm unless it drops lower than that temperature.

We recommend that you choose a rating that is 5 degrees less than the minimum temperature that you expect to be enduring.

For example, camping in winter in the Byron bay coastal area we advise you choose a sleeping bag of 0C or lower, as it is normally around 2C to 5C at the lowest at night (Winter), but once in a while can drop below 0C (as it did at the Splendour in the grass site a few years ago).  In the Byron hinterland it can get quite chilly too, so you may wish to consider a -5C bag or a -10C.

If you're camping in the winter time in an area like Melbourne or Tassie, you may wish to consider a -10C to keep you covered on those extra chilly nights.

In the Byron summertime a 10C bag will be good enough! You may even be too hot, which is one of the reasons why we advise people to consider purchasing a sleeping bag liner. Not only does this mean you're washing your sleeping bag less, but it acts like a sheet cover on hot nights when you feel too warm for a sleeping bag.

We stock a range of sleeping bags and sleeping bag accessories such as the cotton or silk liners, to suit the needs of local visitors. You can see what we currently have in stock HERE.

Winter doesn't last too long in this area, which is a blessing, but we are so spoilt that when a cold night does hit it can be a bit of a shock! So if you are thinking about a new sleeping bag for either home or camping, come in and see us so we can help you make the right choice for your needs.
